Car Chargers Have 12v Converters?

Do automobile GPS charging cords have 12v converters in the cigarette lighter plug end? Can they be wired direct without the cigarette lighter plug?

There are special circuits in the cables. If you want to wire it directly to a power source, garmin makes a special cable with the converters built in. Here is a link to the cable you may need.
