Yes, this barewire cable is compatible with the eTrex 20.

looking for a cable that will allow hardwiring both our etex HCx and our old yellow etrex...12 channel....

The cable will work with the following units.

Compatible units:
Garmin GTU Tracker series
Garmin Nuvi 2xx, 3xx, 5xx, 6xx, 7xx
Garmin StreetPilot C510, C530, C550, C580
eTrex C Series
Garmin Zumo 450, 550
Mio C220, C230, C520, H610, C720T
Magellan 3200, 3250, 4250
TomTom One, OneXL, Go 720, Go 920T
Plus more ...

Your eTrex HCX will work with it but if you have a old eTrex yellow then it will use a different cable connection.

The old eTrex units with serial ports (no USB) use the following cable.
