I bought the DSC 10 and I already have the Garmin Forerunner 305. I did install both magnets (spoke and pedal) my question is do I need to install the spoke magnet.

The pedal magnet seems do the job OK by giving the RPM and my Garmin 305 gave me a message “Disconnecting magnet receiver” (not sure about the exact wording) when I did the pairing after the reset. The distance between the spoke magnet and the receiver is OK.

I am sure that the pedal magnet is working because I had a RPM reading on my Garmin during my training and it was the pedal magnet that was giving the information.

I understand that if I train indoor the spoke magnet will give the distance but outside my GPS is already giving the distance. Does the second reading done with the spoke magnet is a must for the DSC 10 to function properly or it is there just to give the distance when you train indoor?

To have the system work properly you will need to install the magnet on both the pedal and the spoke.
