Would this pass a signal from inside a 12 volt refrigerator to the Garmin Montana 650 mounted 8 feet away? Is it possible to set an alarm if the temperature to a certain level?

This would make a great onboard fridge temperature sensor if the signal is strong enough to get out. If it cant they should make one with a 12 inch lead so the sensor could stay in the fridge and the transmit unit could be located outside of the fridge.

I do not have one at this moment to test but based on the low power ANT technology I do not think it will work while in the fridge. The wireless signal is only good for a few feet and when you put it in the fridge all signals will be blocked.

I went ahead and tested it in My side by side fridge, and to my surprise it worked perfectly, even works in the freezer. My freezer read 0 degrees, about what it should be.
