There is a function on my Oregon 550 for "heart rate monitor". Is this the correct accessory? Is there anything else I need to operate it? Where does it attach on the body? Wrist?

Hello Missbug,

The heart rate monitor (010-10997-00) you are looking at will work with the Garmin oregon 550T. the heart rate monitor wraps around your chest. There is a more comfortable option for roughly the same price. Here is the link.

Hello Paddler,

Yes the Garmin HRM will work with the Oregon 450, it also supports cadence sensors and foot pods for other fitness applications.

What heart rate data is available with this monitor and the Oregon 450 ie. max rate, instantaneous rate, rate vs time etc. and is this data downloadable for viewing and analysis.

It will have current BPM only. You can use the unit with Garmins online fitness software GArmin connect.
