I just purchaswd a model HRM18 heart monitor which I intend to use with my Garmin Dakota 20 GPS. (I was told this cobination would work fine.) The unit arrived in good time, but there is absolutely nothing that tells me how to use it or wear it, or how to turn it on, or how it operates. (Do you have to ware it next to your skin, or on the outside of your shirt? -- Is there a way to turn the sensor on and off?)
I went through all the setup in the Dakota 20 instruction book, and there is absolutely no response from it. The battery has 3.0 volts on it. I assume the unit is defective and I will need to return it, but a few instruction notes would be very halpful.

Hello Erbjl,

The instructions will be in the Dakota manual. You need to enable the accessory using the Dakota menu system.

Setup -> Fitness -> Heart Rate Monitor (turn it on and wait for it to find your HR monitor) Hit Search for NEW. May take a few minutes. Best to work up a bit of a sweat so the HR monitor reads your HR.
