305 Expander Strap or Quick Release Bike Mount

Garmin Forerunner 205 305 Strap and Expander

My original 305 strap needs replacing. First the space between the sizing holes started to rip into one another and now the watch pin pulled through the band. I have the Garmin Forerunner Bike mount, the one that is like a rubber wrist that clamps to your handlebar and then you wrap your watch around it. Perhaps I tighten it a bit too tight as I don't like the watch moving about while mountain biking. So, on to the questions. Would this expander strap do the trick? Is it better suited to the 305 than a replacement velcro band you could pick up at Zellers or Walmart? I like the look of the 305 Quick Release Bike Mount, but I worry that on rough trails the watch might pop off be lost. Is this a good possibility? I got the other bike mount because it switches between road and mountain bike so easily. Hope you can offer some suggestions. Thanks!

The Garmin bike mount and velcro strap would be recommended. I use one on a mountain bike and on rough trails mine has not popped out.

The expander strap will work with the mount you have. the mount you have was made for a newer watch and may not work as well as the one specific for the forerunner 305.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. The mount I have is very handy for using with more than one bike, but you are right that it must not have been meant for a 305. That must be why I have to tighten it so much. I guess I should go for a couple of the 305 bike mounts. One remaining question though, is the expander strap a better fit that a generic velco watch strap?

Not sure if a generic watch strap would work with the Forerunner 305 because of the watch pin spacing. I have never tried one so I can accurately comment. I know the Garmin quick release velcro strap works well for I have one. If you get the proper mount be sure to buy at least one of the kits that include both the velcro strap and bike mount for compatibility. I included a link above.
