where is the detailed map in the Training Centre

I just received my Forerunner 305 and am enjoying it. However, in the software that came with it(Training Centre) my route is not mapped on a detailed map. The map contains only two major highways. Am I missing something?

Hello Joe,
The training center doesn't come with a detailed map, just a base map. There are a few sites online that you can download a detailed map from. We also sell the Garmin maps compatible with training Center.
You can also use Garmin Connect. It is a online service that uses Google maps for a background map. It will also manage your fitness data. Its free with the purchase of your Forerunner and other Garmin GPS Devices.

Thank you for your timely response. I have a couple of follow-up questions. First, you mention that there are a couple of websites from which I could download detailed maps. Are these websites that will allow me to use the maps off-line? If so, could you provide the address for these sites? Second, you mentioned that you sell compatible maps for the Training Center software. I tried searching your site for such offerings but could not find anything. Could you provide the name of the Garmin maps package that is compatible? I really need something to use that is not 'Internet necessary'.

Using the free maps takes some reading. We dont support the free maps but you can find all the info needed to support yourself at the following web address.

All the Garmin maps except Marine charts are compatible with training center. I am unsure how much longer Garmin will supprt training center because they have launched a couple other services. You probably want to take a look at Garmin Topo Canada or Garmin Metroguide Canada. Both contain street data but the topo maps will display more back country information.

I suggest checking out Garmin Connect because it will be supported for a while and comes with detailed maps for free.
