I wanted to enquire about the extended warranty.

The part I am unsure of is what qualifies as accidental damage. Would you please clarify this part?

I am most concerned about water damage after 1-2 years of use. On my old garmin the rubber side buttons started to wear out with normal usage and that clealy would let water in. Would water damage be covered with the extended warranty?

Also the batteries tend to go on these units. Is there any coverage for battery replacement?

Thanks

Please see the page below for the terms and conditions of our extended warranty:

http://www.gpscity.com/help/extendedwarranty

Under "What is not covered?" you will find that no, any accidental damage or abuse of the unit is not covered by Garmin or our extended warranty. Unfortunately water damage would not be covered by the extended warranty.

If the battery dies within the warranty period, then yes that is part of the normal warranty service at which point we will repair or replace the unit at our sole discretion.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for your reply.

If the device is designed and meant to be used under water as this one is, then I guess I don't fully understand why water damage would not be covered with the extended warranty. I presume it must be covered by Garmin with the 1 year warranty given the fact the watch is meant to be used under water when swimming. The garmin manual states that scuba diving is not allowed and would void the warranty but that is not what I am asking about. I am only referring to using it when swimming.

This was quoted on their site, "Designed for open water and pool swimming, Forerunner 910XT is water resistant to 50 m (164 ft). " here buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=90671

Does this by any chance change your reply? Thanks for your time in answering my question.

You're very welcome! Our policy is basically an extension of Garmin's policy. Whatever Garmin does or does not cover is what our extended warranty will cover as well. I just got off the phone with Garmin tech support and their policy is if it is a result of a defect on the unit, yes they will cover it. If the buttons do wear down and allow water in, this would be covered. However, if you dropped the unit or damaged it in any other way causing it to break the water seal and water damage occurs as a result, then no this would not be covered.

So to answer your original question, if the buttons wore down and condensation happened as a result, yes Garmin's warranty and our extended warranty would cover it.
