I have 2 Nuvi's registered in my name. Can I use the same North America Lifetime Update on both of them?

Hello Brian,
That is a good question. The Garmin nuMap Lifetime map update subscription is only good for one of your GPS units. If you like to update both you will need to buy a card for each unit.

Cheers

I own a Nuvi 255 which is now about 1 year old, which also means my warranty has almost expired. My question is with regard to getting a "lifetime" map update:

Does Garmin provide any provision should my GPS stop working (i.e. dies) when it's off-warranty, or is lost, breaks, etc?

It would be attractive if Garmin extended the warranty on your unit if you purchase Lifetime Map Updates (even for 4-5 years...I'd buy it without question). Or, a reasonable transfer fee should one decide to upgrade to a newer unit.

Today, I saw a Nuvi 255 on sale for $139CDN ... Almost seems like a better deal (v. $115.99 for the Lifetime Map Update), as for "almost the same price as a Map Update", I can get a current map PLUS a 1-year warranty, and, oh yeah, another GPS.

Unless I am unaware of something, I think Garmin can do better.

Hello Ron,

If the unit stops working and an authorized Garmin repair depot fixes or replaces the unit you will have no issues. for more information feel free to call 1.800.800.1020

I'm with Ron on this one, I have older 250W SE and it complains when I power it up about how old the map is, but to pay $115.99 to upgrade the map on a 4 year old GPS seems a bit absurd. As he mentions I would be better off buying a new GPS on sale for just a few dollars more!

This is not very 'green' of Garmin, they have to build new maps for their current devices and a token fee like say $10 to update an older device would be understandable, but 80% the cost of unit on sale??? Come on.

This just encourages even more perfectly servicable electronics to be thrown into a landfill, sad...

TomTom today announced that it is now offering Lifetime Map Updates and Lifetime Traffic Updates on a wide range of TomTom devices...

The new offering allows users to keep their maps fresh by allowing them to download the maps every few months and keeps drivers up to date on current road conditions every three minutes.

Can Garmin be far behind, they will loose customers if not.

Now that I know this this, it will be a major determining factor in my next purchase.

Hello Al,

Tomtom is copying Garmins example. Please take a look at the Garmin product offerings. Garmin has no worries about losing customers because Tomtom doesn't do half of what Garmin can do.

Cheers
Jordan
