I just bought a new garmin 1490 LMT and need to put maps of brazil since we are moving there in june 2012. Do I need to buy old maps and update them with the onetime NT 2012? That doesn't make any sense to me.
I also would like to put the Oxford™ Travel Language Guide: Western Europe and the Americas on my machine. Do I download in the machine both maps and dictionary or do I use a s card and a download...? will my machine go slower with all this in it? (that maybe a real dumb question but I am not technically savyy). Thanks for your prompt answer.

If you will need updated maps yearly for Brazil you will need to purchase the full version maps on DVD, and then purchase the update separately.
For the Oxford Language Guide can be downloaded from buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1280, and then loaded into your unit. It is not a large enough file to cause your unit to slow down at all.
