will this card upate a Garmin 255w, bought 2 years ago? It works fine but an update might be useful.

Yes this will work with all Garmin nuvi's. The nuvi 255W will work fine

can i load the card's info onto two different units, i.e. nuvi255 and dakota 20 or do i need to physically move the card between the units?

You will need to move the card from unit to unit as you need it. The map data stays on the card and can not be copied.
