I have not seen the higher resolution versus the 500C. Is there a significant difference? Is it worth paying $100. more? Does the higher resolution show the bottom composition better? What are the pros and cons for the 550C versus the 500C?

The only difference between those two units is the screen type and resolution.

Echo 500C = QVGA @ 234x320 256 colors
Echo 550C = VGA @ 480x640 256 colors

The added resolution is nice and will add abit more clarity to the soundings. Personally I do not see a benefit but I also don't use a fishfinder often.
