What marine charts (if any) are provided with the unit as purchased without an SD card? Are they normal navigation charts? The literature seems to indicate that aerial photos are used, or is this just for the land. In other words, does one have to buy the Blue Chart g2 Vision to get a proper marine chart for the B.C. waters?

Hello RadioHam,

The satellite map in the GPSMap 421S is not good for navigation. You will need to purchase the detailed BlueCharts G2 or G2 Vision cards. The recommended card covers all of Canada. here is the link.
