In the top right corner of the "sonar " screen there are , what appear to be , two tempature displays ... the top one would seem to be the water temp, what is the one under it ? I cannot find what it is in the operations guide

Hello 05Liberty,

Both temperatures at the Top and bottom of the screen are the transducer temperature reading. The top temp is visible as part of the Temperature graph at the Top of the Screen. you can adjust what you see on the screen so if two temperatures is too much you can disable one.
