does this unit accept navionics maps....the same ones as the elite 5 series?

Which card do you have with your elite series?

The HDS series accepts Navionics cards for both coastal and inland lakes. You will be able to use Navionics Hotmaps premium, Hotmaps Platinum, Gold and Platinum marine cards.

Hello..I am tossing between either Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2 USA Insight Fishfinder and GPS Chartplotter 50 200 Transducer or the Garmin 740s...I would like to know which would be best suited for fishing upto 200 ft, and great for small lakes maps for navigation, and for the great lakes of ontario. what is Best for accuracy and reliability...I see the Lowrance comes withthe transducer so cost wise they are about the same..Please help me out thanks

When it comes to general sounding they will be about the same. The Lowrance HDS series has the ability to work with Structure scan (LSS-2). For waters up to 250 ft deep the structure scan will give you the best detail of the bottom of the lake.

The lowrance HDS will work with Navionics maps. Just like Garmin you will most likely need to buy an inland lake card and a card for the Great lakes. The one benefit to the Garmin products is that they can load Topo mapping if a lake is not covered so at least you get a rough shore outline.
