Charging problem

Original question asked on Sep 4, 2012, 3:15pm
My slightly over a year old Garmin 276C chart plotter is no longer capable of fully charging the battery. I thought the battery was defective so I purchased a new one but the problem still persists.
It never seems to get past 1/4 charged and then shows the message "charging is complete" and it won't charge any further. I've tried a different cord, cleaning the terminals, and spent countless hours pouring over the manual and menus in an attempt to rectify the issue without success.
I love this unit but its not much use if a charge only lasts about 1 hour.
Anyone had similar issues?

Garmin rectified the charging issues a few years back with firmware updates. I suggest trying the update to see if that helps. You can download Garmin WebUpdater for free to complete the process

I've just updated to the latest software using the WebUpdater and the problem still remains. Only showing 1/4 charged and says "Charge Complete".

You may still need a new battery

This unit has just had a new battery installed which was purchased from you about 2 months ago and has only had about 6 hours use since. As well the GPS is only slightly over 1 year old and was also purchased from you.

Try doing a master reset of the unit.

If you have tried all the suggestions then you will need to contact Garmin next. 1-800-800-1020 They may have some troubleshooting techniques to walk you through.

Just tried the master reset and it didn't work either.
I'm very disappointed though as this is the second 276C I've purchased from you. The first one was no longer able to lock onto satellites and it was deemed non repairable (at least within financial reason).
I'll try Garmin and let you know how I make out.

Normally that unit is very good and reliable. One of the most requested units. We ran out of those I three years ago and since then people have been asking for it to come back and or for an equivalent device.

I'm pretty sure I bought mine from you in May of 2011 so its only just over a year old. Perhaps you could check your records for online purchases or I could ask my bookkeeper to look it up.

The unit was purchased from GPS City on May 28, 2009. You received one of the very last few GPS City had, we have not had these in inventory for at least the last 3 years.
