What maps are now preloaded on the 740s Do I need to purchase additional maps for the Great Lakes of Ontario I have heard negative feed back on the purchase maps for some of the smaller lakes. Eg (Simco) that plotting and actual detail is missing or incorrect. Has this improved on the 720s or 740s. Thanks again.

The maps included with the GPSMap 740S are for the USA only. You will need to get the Bluechart card HXCA015R for Canadian coastal areas and the Great lakes region. for smaller lakes outside the Great lakes you will need inland lakes Ontario.

The maps for lakes like Simcoe are on the HXCA015R card and are the same as what you can get on paper. I have not heard negative feedback if you purchase the correct software for the lakes you frequent. I have heard feedback from users who did not know they needed to buy detailed mapping and were looking at the basemap. The basemap has no useful information.

One thing to note is the HXCA015R card has much better detail on lakes shared with the Inland lakes ontario card. So if your lake is covered in Both it is best to get the HXCA015R card for it will have better information.
