I wish to use the tranducer for he purpose of temp and depth, and even for speed as some models have .But I would like one that will work really well for searching out fish and floor terrian..If I am spending $$ for the 740s unit, I dont want to cheap out on the transducer if something for $50 or so more will work 100 times better..Please make some suggestions..

Thanks

How deep is the water you will be working in? If it is less than 250feet and coastal you may want to look at the units with structure scan(DSI).

Do you want the transducer to be mounted in-hull, shoot thru the hull, or transom mount?

I would say the depths will be less than 200ft atleast for fishing..more likely in the 50-150ft range, and fresh water, great lake fishing. after that depth i wont care so much..I can only scuba dive to 100ft so if I can get a transducer that has great imagery to see good structure on the floor at 100ft that would be great..I guess you have been suggesting the Transom mount. I rather not drill big holes in the hull...but if the transom one works for those applications..great!! does it do speed, temp, depth, and fish finder?

BTW your help has been amazing...I would recommend you to all my fellow boaters, and friends

If you want amazing detail of the lake bottom then the Lowrance HDS series with structure scan will give you the best view of what lies below. The Structure scan and DSI models do not give fish arcs like some units. Instead of a fish arc you will see something that looks like the fish.
