Hello Alain,

1. All GPS Chartplotters give you speed over ground. If you have a speed wheel on the transducer you can do speed through the water also taking into account currents.
2. The best is to get a dual freq/dual beam transducer so you can switch frequencies and beam widths using the unit. Here is one suggestion.

Hi there my name is fenando, can i use my garmin 431s with dual transducer on open water i just move to miami and i dont want to buy a diferent unit for sea?

You can use the 431S with a Dual freq or Dual beam Transducer.
