I'm looking at putting the Garmin in my new cruiser, and want a transducer for the fishfinder/water temp etc. Not sure it I'll use in hull or mount on the lower transom.

Hello,

The GPSMap 740S is compatible with both types of transducers. The intelliducer (depth only) and the regular transducers (depth and fish finding). The most popular transducer is the 010-10272-00 transom mount. In-Hull and Thru-Hull transducers need to be professionally installed for best results.

I am replacing a Garmin 240 fish finder with a Garmin 740s.. Will the same transducer work? Transom mounted.

That is difficult to say without knowing the PN of the transducer you have for the Fishfinder 240. If it is the one that is integrated into the power cable (can not be detached) then it will not be compatible with the 740S. If the transducer is a stand alone one that plugs into the power cable then it may be compatible. I will need the PN to be 100% sure. The transducer cable should have 6 pins to plug into the 740S.
