I recently installed a Garmin 400c fishfinder. The transducer that came with the unit is dual frequency. I do not want to use the transducer that was included with the unit as I would have to purchase an adapter for use on my trolling motor. Can I use my old transducer? It is from a Garmin 250c but is only a single frequency (200khz). The connectors fit together perfectly. My next problem is the initial setup or programming of the new unit. There is a menu that asks which setting I would like to use, dual freq, or dual beam. Which is correct since my old transducer is neither?

Hello Joe,

What is the part number of the transducer you are using? Garmin only has one single frequency transducer listed as compatible on their site and it is a thru-hull mounted one. That doesnt mean yours wont work. You may need to give it a test. I recommend using the better one that comes in the box.

Please refer to page 22 to 26 of the users manual for changing the sonar frequencies.
