Bought this item and mapping system and all set up fine - I am however having a bit of difficulty with the Depth Sounder / Transducer. The problem is that it does not want to work (i.e. - the depth reading only blinks) when the boat is traveling at a decent speed (more than 14 knots). Any thoughts / suggestions?

Hello Joe,

When moving does the transducer stay submerged in the water? cavitation could be causing the issue. At any speed do you get a constant depth reading? How does the depth log look? does it show data scroll across the screen? Any info will help greatly. You will also want to contact Garmin for tech assistance 1-800-800-1020

Cheers

I am pretty sure that the unit stays in the water when the boat is up on step and at speed. I have mounted it on the factory plate and the boat, a Harbercraft model, is a decent name so they should know where they are placing their transducer mounts. It does give constant and accurate readings but only when travelling below 12 knots otherwise it will simply blink the last reading that it had - stop the boat and within a short time, the reading changes and stops blinking. The log seems fine and scrolls when there is a reading, otherwise it just simply doesn't register / record while under speed. Not certain if this helps sort out the issue or not.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Joe,

Do you get any air bubbles around or under the transducer when you are at speed?
