I just purchased a Lowrance Elite 5 Gold, I am having difficulty starting the gps as there does not seem to be specific instructions in the manual. I know to take the small chip and insert it in the unit after that there are no real instructions. Are these somewhere I am not looking ? I am near Ottawa Ont.

Hello Terry,

Does your unit not start up? I will be uploading a video manual soon. Please let me know specifically what you are struggling with and I will try to assist you. Sorry but Lowrance did not provide any manuals with the new elite and Mark series units.

Cheers

Hi Jordan, I have not tried to install the chip yet, the unit has just been installed in my boat. Under "Basic Operation" "Getting Started" it tells you to: 1. turn on the unit, 2."Man Overboard Waypoint" press zoom in and zoom out at same time to set your present location. Is this required? That is all the start up instructions for the gps I can find, the manual describes the gps operation but not how get set up initially. I spoke to the staff at Lebaron in ottawa when I bought it and all I rememeber is to hit the menu button twice, after that I am not sure, what part of the index would the Ottawa River be under?

Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.

Thank You

Hello Terry,

Yes, hit menu twice then go into Charts and select either Inland or Coastal charts. I would try both settings and use the zoom out and zoom in along with the cursor to explore your area on the map screen. Our videos on the unit will be up by the end of the week to help assist everyone.

Cheers

thanks for the info, I should be OK now. Why do they tell you about the "Man Overboard Waypoint" Is that required or if someone falls in you do this???

Hello Terry,

MOB is used for when someone goes overboard. Not sure why it is part of the initial setup. Maybe just to make you aware of its function.
