Does this chip show contour lines and depths? Looking for a chip with St Mary's River system near Sault Saint Marie, MI and Canada area. Also, is there a pic with actual chart on it? I need one for a Humminbird 385ci

The Navionics Gold cards with show bathymetric lines in coastal areas and around the great lakes. It is a marine map only. Not much land detail. You will need the USA gold card to get the MI area unless you are referring to great lakes info.

When these cards are inserted into the slot, do they remain

there like the sim card in my cell phone?

In order to see the maps the card must stay in the unit at all times. The only time you take it out is to put a different area card in.
