This map will add up to date Canadian coastal information including the great lakes. For inland lakes that will be a different card.

Could I assume that HXCA015R is not a requirement upon purchasing the GPSMAP 640 as the unit is already loaded with Georgian Bay and the Great Lakes data? Thx in advance.

The maps preloaded on a GPSMap 640 will have some coverage in the Canadian great lakes region. However it will not have the same coverage as the HXCA105R Bluechart card. If you are boating in Canada you will need the HXCA015R card.

I would not recommend the GPSMap 640. I find that it is better to get a standalone Chartplotter like the GPSMap 421S and a Garmin nuvi.
