I have a Colorado 400t and have been trying to find out which software I need to buy to be able to put the map on my unit.

What I have found is that there are three products for sale: a data card, a micro sd card version as well as a CD-Rom. I really don't want to use a card on my small sailboat as it will probably just fail out and be gone. Is there any downside to using the CD and just uploading the data to my handheld GPS?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The two compatible with your unit are the microSD version and CD version. The Garmin data card version is for older Garmin chartplotters and sounders. You unit is compatible with the Garmin BlueChart G2 cards.

The microSD card can be used in other Garmin units that use the same card. The CDRom will be locked to your one GPS and the card you program wont be able to work in other Garmin units because of the lock. But there is a benefit to buying the CD. If you have the CD you can plan trips on your PC using the included maps. Then transfer them to your GPS.
The pre-programmed maps on microSD are not transferable to the PC for planning on the PC.
