I have a Nuvi 550, use it in my car and on my motorcycle. i also want to use it in my boat, my home Lakes are Simcoe, and Couchiching, connected lakes in Ontario which I do not see listed on the lakes listing. Are thay really not on the SD card? I alos boat other lakes and Georgina bay, part of Lake Huron, would that be on the charts? What would suggest I buy for marine charts?

Hi John,
While your two lakes and Georgian Bay are not covered well on the Inland Lakes Ontario SD card, they are covered on the Bluechart G2 Canada SD card (HXCA015R). I have tested the Bluechart card on a Nuvi 550, and it shows detailed contour/depth lines for both Lake Simoce and Couchiching, as well as Georgian Bay.
Thank you.

I realize the 550 is waterproof, but does it function any differently than the 255W with Inland Lakes - Ontario.

Regarding Inland Lakes - Ontario , does it cover the St Lawrence River / Rideau Canal & and the US portinon of ST Lawrence & Lake Ontario?

Hello Abby,

The nuvi 550 works differently that the nuvi 255W. The nuvi 255W is for driving and urban use only. The nuvi 550 can be used for boating, driving, and short hikes.

The inland lakes card will not cover the St Lawrence River / Rideau Canal & and the US portion of ST Lawrence & Lake Ontario.

Is there a list of the inland lakes on the HXCA015R that i can look at? In addition to Simcoe and Geiorgian bay, I want Ontario in land lakes.

Hello John,

There is no coverage list for the HXCA015R cards. Generally they only cover Canadian coastal waters including the Great lakes and some lakes in the great lakes area. Please let us know what lakes you are interested in and we can look it up. for lakes outside the great lakes region you will need the inland lake card.

Cheers
Jordan

I am interested in most of southern ontario inland lakes, along with Simcoe and Georigian bay,so it looks like I would need both the HXCA015R and the Ontario inland lakes cards. Too bad ther is just not one card to cover this, it gets expensive to by the HXCA015R only for lake Simcoe and Georigian bay use, it comes with so much more4 I will never use. Garmin should put out a cord for "all" of Ontario.

I have heard that the Nuvi 2** did not show depth lines when navigating at different zoom levels on the water. Does the Nuvi 550 ?

The nuvi 2XX series is for driving only. The nuvi 550 is made for boating also so yes it will show the contour lines. We still recommend a handheld or chartplotter for the boat for they will have more features for boating.
