Replaced a Lowrance GlobalMap 2000 with Elite 5m. Autopilot is Raymarine ST5000. The NEMA signal from the GlobalMap (worked fine) was a little over 5.0 V. The signal from the Elite 5m is 2.5 V. This doesn't appear to be enough for the ST2000. Any suggestions? How about connections?

Have you gut the voltage limiting resistors off the cable? If you unit requires true Rs232 voltages the resistors must be cut off.

Yes, I cut off the diode/resistor end and used orange/yellow for differental mode. The voltage across the two leads is in the range of 2.5 V. The old unit was a touch over 5 V. Do you think there is something wrong with this unit or are the elite 5m's typically under 3 volts?

With the resistors cut off it should be normal serial voltages. You will want to contact Lowrance and Raymarine next. Probably Lowrance first. Before doing so do you have the units NMEA 0183 settings turned on?

New revelation. . . talked with Lowrance Support Service, Craig and he says that the orange wire is not configured on the Elite 5m to do anything, it is dead. No V(-) signal on the new units, only V(+)yellow to ground.
