I understand that all Garmin Marine Network Cables are Crossover Cables as opposed to Patch Cables which do not provide crossover connectivity. The question that I have relating to the subject "Coupler" is: Does it provide crossover connectivity?

The reason I ask is that if it is a straight through connector, you would then have two crossover cables in series which would cancel the crossover connection required between Garmin network devices.

I have a cable # 01010552-00 and # 010-10551-00. Checking continuity of these cables reads as follows: Position 1 on meteer reads 3,2 reads 6, 3 reads 1, 4=4, 5=5, 6 reads 2, 7=7, 8=8. When Coupler #010-10580-00 is used to connect these two cables together, the readings go as follows:
1=1,2=2,3=3,4=4,5=5,6=6,7=7,8=8. Have I lost the " cross over "?

Also, how are the cables held connected to the coupler?

I apologize. It is just straight through. It provides a mounted port on your boat to plug into.

By its use. It simply plugs two cables together to continue the network connections and make a longer cable.
