Hi. Will I have to format or otherwise "prep" this card, or can I just press it into the Micro-SD slot in my Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT then go into MyGarmin and load my full North America Map like I want to?

All you will need to do is put the card in the nuvi 1450 and it should be ready to load. Most cards come with default formatting which is the same formatting Garmin uses for its devices. Plug and play. It very few cases you may need to format the card.

OK so I bought the 4 GB Card and confirmed it's readable inside the Nuvi 1450LMT. It is formatted as FAT32, same as the memory in the Nuvi. But, when I try to download a full North America Map, Garmin Map Updater only recognizes the Garmin memory, with only 406 MB remaining. It asks me to insert an SD card, which I've done, so I click "Continue" and still no luck!

Try updating the GPS unit and make sure all software on the computer you are using is up to date. To update your GPS unit download Garmin WebUpdater from Garmins site.
