Can I use these cards to load custom maps to a GPSMap 396? The unit's internal memory is maxed out but I need to add a map that I custom made, wondering if this will work? I see all the product pages say they are for maps from MapSource, but if I have my own map in GMAPSUPP.img format and I place it onto the card will this also work? Thanks!

Hello SK,
Garmin does not support custom maps for units that use those cards. Garmin only does custom maps for the Oregon, Dakota, and Colorado series.
There are a few third party manufacturer out there that do make software for other units. (CGPSMAPPER) You would have to contact them to see if their software can load the cards and work on the unit you have.

You would use the GPS unit as the card programmer or the Garmin USB data card programmer for that style of card.

Thanks Jordan, I know the maps I create can be loaded to the GPSMap units as I've done it before, I use Mapwel's map loader to load them straight into the internal memory, so I guess if the GPS has a data card inserted then the map loader will see the card and give me the option to load the map onto it.

That is correct. There is a third party maker of a Garmin map transfer program also used by the CGPSMapper guys. The software is called SENDMAP.

Cheers

Sorry, didn't mean to send that one twice! Thanks very much for your help, I'll order the cheapest data card for now and give it a try!
