Hi everyone!
I'm new here, so please be patient!
I have a Garmin Oregon 300, and am interested in the Mobile PC application which I understand will replace my nRoute.
I'm wondering, first of all, if Mobile PC will work with the Oregon 300. Will Mobile PC work with Metro Guide Canada v5?
Will Mobile PC work with Topo Canada v2?
Will the City Navigator NT that comes with Mobile PC work with the Oregon 300?
Is the City Navigator NT packaged with Mobile PC the 2010 version?
Can the City Navigator NY packaged with Mobile PC be updated with the nuMaps Lifetime Update?

Thank you for your time,
Dave Chapman

Hello dchapman!
For ease of use I would recommend the complete MobilePC20x package. I have had issues using other receivers with the mobile PC software. Unfortunately nRoute is more powerful and will allow you to use all you map products. Mobile PC is a very simplified version and will only display the maps it comes with at this time. The mapping that comes with the MobilePC can NOT be loaded into the internal memory of a Garmin GPS. It can be used on the PC only. I recommend that you continue to use nRoute for it is a better software. Mobile PC is just pretty and a little easier to use. Have a fun day!
Cheers

Thank you for the reply, Jordan.
It seems that if I want City Navigator on my Oregon 300 then I should purchase the actual City Navigator 2010 package. Will this work with MapSource and nroute?
I haven't been able to consistently make nroute see the Oregon 300. I think the spanner has to be running on the computer, but I can't determine if the Oregon 300 should be in spanner or Garmin. Sometimes one works, sometimes the other.
Thank you again for your time,
David Chapman

If you use nRoute then yes it should work on your PC and your GPS unit. The Oregon 300 will have to be used as the sensor when navigating with your laptop and City Navigator NT.
The Oregon should be in Garmin mode for communications with nRoute. Spanner is used to translate the Garmin data into NMEA which is used in most other software. I hope this helps

Cheers

I cannot get nRoute to see the Oregon 300 when it is in Garmin Serial mode. The interface needs to be set to Garmin Spanner then select No to the USB mass storage question.
When the interface is set to Garmin Serial the GPS shuts off and becomes a USB mass storage device when connected via computer to a USB port.
Am I overlooking something?

Thanks again,
David Chapman

Hello dchapman
I was thinking you had Spanner on your PC running which you do not need. I was able to set the unit to Garmin Spanner in the internal settings and have it work with nRoute. Make sure when the GPS ask you to go into Mass Storage mode, say "NO". Hopefully everything will start to work for you.
** don't forget to update your nRoute and Unit software first.
