How many waypoints can be imported into 1 route?

How many waypoints can be imported into 1 route (programmed with mapsource). looking for a replacement for nuvi 500, which leaves out most all waypoints if you try to import a route with more than 20 waypoints.
holding 500 waypoints is no good if you can't use them.

The Zumo 220 is capable of storing 500 waypoints which can be used in a custom route. If you require more waypoints, you may want to consider a Zumo 660 which can store 1000 waypoints or the Montana 600 which can store 4000 waypoints.
It would be recommended to use Garmin's BaseCamp program as Mapsource is no longer supported.

I know it can store 500 waypoints, but there's a limit on how many it will import into (1) route. My nuvi 500 will also hold 500 waypoints, but garmin says, I shouldn't try to import more than 25 into one route. If I build a route with 50 waypoints, I have to manually add at least 30 of them inside the units editing function (add and remove waypoints)

Garmin would know best.
If you needed a route with 50 waypoints, a solution would be to create 3 separate routes and divide the 50 waypoints up amongst them (20/15/15).
