I sent an email to you guys about this, and was told to post the question here, so here's the email I sent:

I bought a Garmin Zumo 220, from you, in April of this year. Last month, during a 3 week road trip, the unit shut down and I was unable to restart it for about an hour while I was riding. Once I got it restarted, it never did it again, and it slipped my mind. Yesterday (Aug. 26, 2012), it did it again, but only for a few minutes. It also kept giving me notifications that "external power has been lost...", over and over, as though the power cable was being constantly unplugged. When I got home, I noticed that the USB connection is very loose. I believe the usb connector in the unit is defective. What are my options?
Thank you.

It sounds like you figured out the issue already. It does seem like a broken connector. Just to be sure, have you tried a different power cable?

Products within warranty normally go to Raytech in Canada for repair.

I used the Zumo for a 3000 km trip this weekend, and I duct taped the power cable connector to the Zumo, and had no issues whatsoever. Without the tape, the connector almost falls out of the Zumo. (it's the stock motorcycle harness that came with the Zumo, and has foam rubber around the connector). Regular USB cables are also loose, but not as much.

I rely on my Zumo on an almost daily basis (I had a 450 before this one and it was bulletproof), so being without it for an extended period of time, while it goes for repair, is not all that doable for me. Is there a way I could just exchange it for another one?

Thank you

If you purchase an extended warranty through GPS City feel free to call us. If no extended warranty was purchased you will need to contact Raytech.

I'm confused... why would I need an extended warranty in this case, as this thing isn't even 6 months old?

If you have an extended warranty we can do the swap for you instead of you sending it to Raytech. If you do not have an extended warranty from GPS City then it will go to the Garmin authorized repair facility Raytech directly.

I contacted Raytech, and they told me the turnaround time is 2-3 weeks. I simply cannot be without a GPS for that long. Is there anything you guys can do to help me out?

Thank you.

There is nothing I can do for you in the tech forum. The unit is discontinued so it will take us a while to find one as a replacement. Raytech should have them on hand.

I would be more than happy to be having this conversation via regular email, however, I was directed here by one of your staff.

I contacted Raytech, and they told me they won't do an exchange. looking at the placement of the usb port on the Zumo, it looks to be a design flaw, and I feel that it will happen again.

Since this is a discontinued device, how about i send it back, and you credit the purchase price toward a different unit, for example a Zumo 350LM?

Sorry I can not authorize anything in the Forum. If you purchased the unit in the past 30 days you can do a upgrade through us via our regular 30 day return policy. If you are upgrading, the better unit will be the zumo 660.

For technical questions we will answer them in the forum. Sales inquiries including exchanges will be done via sales. It is best to phone but you can email us too.
