I did gps synchronization from HD ride planner to GPS, and received confirmation when I chose export, but none of the routes seem to appear on the zumo? Did I do something wrong?

This is the first I have heard of HD ride planner. I did a search and found it. It is a Harley Davidson product. I suggest that you contact them for assistance using the program for they will know why it is not working for you.

In the mean time try importing the route into Basecamp. If it imports you should be able to send it to your zumo 660 via Basecamp. Once in your GPS unit they will be found in Tools -> Custom Routes.

Thanks. I was able to "import" from custom routes, once I exported from HD ride Planner. Very limited though, because routes are confined to 20. My trip is across canada and back, so looks like I'll be rejigging it all into way points, making less "stop" points.

It is usually best just to load your destination as points and let the unit route for you. You can always ignore the route it gives you and go the way you want. The unit will recalculate and still get you to your destination.

When planning trips on my Zumo, I have found it easier to load waypoints rather than trying to preplan custom routes.
The waypoints can then be used on the Zumo to create the route as needed.
A waypoint can easily be added using Google Maps and when done this way will include information about the waypoint. Hotels, restaurants and other places of interest will have the name, address, phone number, along with the coordinates or location.
Using Google Maps will also help with the trip planning as it will give a good idea about the distance and duration of the trip and will let you plan where and when to stop for fuel, food, and rest.
