Original question asked on Oct 20, 2010, 11:22am
Will I be able to power the 660 on my motorcycle using the cigarette adapter plug...? I really don't want to hard wire the unit and will be using it for more than 4 to 5 hours at a time...

Hello Daniel,

You will need to add the plug to the motorcycle cable but it can be done with a little work.

Cheers

Hello Daniel,

You would need to source a OEM Cigarette adapter locally or take apart an old plug from another device.

Cheers

GPS City: Ok, Your responses are confusing me. I have a std, OEM cig lighter on my 2011 HD Ultra Lim. The 660 I just puchased comes with a "Garmin Straight 18 Pin Cigarette Lighter Adapter." Will it plug in and work as is? What does the GPS response mean when you say, "You will need to add the plug to the motorcycle cable...?" To me the "plug" is the male part which fits into the lighter housing, and that comes on cable provided with the unit?????????

You will have to add a cigarette lighter plug to the motorcycle cable because the vehicle mount and cable will not work on a bike. The bike mount and cable are integrated

So I take it then that "the Garmine 660, the GPS unit designed by motorcyclist for motorcyclists," is dlievered with a cig lighter plug that works on a car but not on a bike?????

The unit is to be hardwired on the bike. The cable for the car will not work with the bike mounts. It will only work on the car mount (connection type) and the car mount will not work on the bike. They give you both mounts. One for the car and the other for the bike.
