There was no issue with the original cradles. This cradle is the same one as before.

I agree with Kevin, the cradle is very poorly designed and prone to separation of the metal housing from the cradle at the power socket

I fully agree with both Kevin & Mario. Due to the weight of the power cord and the torque it exerts on the power inlet of the cradle, the soder connection breaks easily, making the cradle extremely problematic. The NUVI 700 series is a great device but there is a flaw in the cradle. Some folks have said they use tiewraps to strap the cord to the mount, therby allievating the stress off the cradle connection. This might work and prolong the cradle's life. Alternatively, you can power the unit using a usb/power outlet but won't be able to use the traffic FM receiver built into the original cord..kinda defeats the use of having lifetime traffic updater. This product is discontinued, so don't hope that Garmin will fix the problem anytime soon. Be prepared to pay $20/yr for maintenanc (new cradle) every year. However, GPSCITY is one of the cheaper vendors out there. GOOD LUCK!

I feel the main part of the problem is the GPS unit becoming loose from the windshield and taking a fall towards the floor of the car only to be snapped to a halt by the cord. This places a tremendous stress on the attachment point. You would not believe how many times it falls off with severe Canadian temperature changes. I also agree this is a darn poor design. Weak as a kitten. Two measly soldered tabs However I think I'll order one, insert the plug and then cement it in place with a product called household Goop. For sure being careful not to get the glue on the contacts. On second thought maybe order 2 as this thing will not be available forever. In my opinion the 765T was hands down the best Garmin ever.
