I spliced the red the power and black ground to an accessory wires in a plug on my bike, I have 12v power at the three middle contacts on the mount and nothing at the others? Is this normal? My unit does not seem to be charging even tho there is power at the mount, is there a seting that needs to be done on the montana? I would like to figure this out asap as i leave on a long bike trip tomorrow.
Thanks

When the unit is charging there is a AC plug icon on the main screen instead of a battery. What do you see? How long did you leave the unit to charge

Here are some things to try.

- Check that all connections are good at the battery and GPS end.
- Check the fuse in the cable to make sure it is good.
- Make sure there are no kinks in the cable. Make sure the power wires are not pinched by anything on the vehicle.
- Check the voltage at the place where you connected the power wires. Make sure it is enough to power the mount. 9 to 30V.
- Check to see if the lithium battery charges using the AC charger.

There are no settings in the Garmin Montana that need to be changed. If there is anything else you have tried please let me know.

I have the exact same problem as Don. 12 volts at the pins, but the unit does not power up when inserted into the mount, and also does not charge when in the mount. When taking a piece of twin flex wire directly, from battery to gold connectors on Unit, it powers on fine, and displays AC power icon? How can this be? I triple check that there is connection at all points, and Volts right at the unit connectors?

That is odd. I suggest updating the firmware using either Garmin WebUpdater or Garmin Express. If that does not help you will want to give Garmin a call to see if you have a defective unit or battery.
