Looking for a gps receiver to tie in to my comnav nx2 system, specifically the nx2 server. Is this a good choice for me.

It does mention NMEA in the short write up but not what version. If the unit does speak NMEA 0183 you will be able to hook up the Garmin 15x HVS NMEA 0183 to it. I am pretty sure it will work with no problem.

Jordan - thanks for the help. I purchased the unit but am now struggling to connect it to the NX2 server given the differing terminology in the two manuals.

The Garmin has cables for: Power, Ground, Accessory On, Transmit A(+), Transmit B(-), Receive A (+), Receive B (-), Pulse Per Second

The GPS section of the NX2 server lists: 12V, Input A, Input B, OV. More information on the NX2 Server can be found here: nexusmarine.se/upload/marine/marine/manuals/nx2_2007/Eng/Transducers/22172-1.pdf

I've emailed both Garmin and Nexus but any insight you can lend on exactly how to connect the two would be fantastic.

Don't worry about the lines that have a negative sign(-) beside them. Tie the 'ACC on' on the 17HVS to ground. It is active low and tieing it to ground enables it all the time. You can connect it to the 0v on the NX2 along with the black ground from the 17x. Then take the Grey transmit wire and hook it up to the RX line of your NX2. According to the manual it is INPUT A. The white receive line (+) of the 17XHVS is connected to the INPUT B of NX2 (even though it is a output). Power on the 17HVS can be connected to 12V on the NX2. Crossing the data lines is OK. Just don't cross the power and ground lines. Be sure to test before using in a real world application. Have fun!
