Garmin lists available software updates for this unit that can be installed over a serial port or a USB Card Programmer. Since this is a bare wire cable, do you have any idea of how to perform software updates to this device?

Thanks

You will need to connect it to a USB or serial port. You can put a DB-9 on the end of the cable. The DB9 will plug into a serial port. Because most computers no longer have serial ports you will need to plug the DB-9 into a Serial to USB converter. Then plug it into the computer. It will take some work to get this part updated. Once you do it the next time it will be a breeze.

Thanks. Is there a wiring diagram to the DB-9?

Just copy and paste this URL in your browser address bar.

There is also a diagram that came with the 17x that will tell you what each wire color is.
