I have a Garmin 35 HVS GPS antenna with 4 wires, red, white, blue and black. Can you tell me how to hook this up to a USB connector. Thanks

Hello John,

There is a few ways to do it but you will need some electronics knowledge. you can put a DB9 connector on the cable then connect it to a Serial to USB converter. Most converters wont supply power so you will have to create your own external power source. Please refer to the manual for voltage specifications for your device.

The other way is to use a FTDI chipset and create your own power/USB board.

If you have no electronics background I would recommend a USB based device. Maybe the Garmin OEM 18x USB or the USGlobalsat BU353 may be a better option for you. By the time you buy all the parts buying the new GPS will work better in most cases.

Cheers
Jordan
