Why are there differences in Total Elevation - Unit vs Log?

I have downloaded three logs from three different days, and in every instance, the "Total Elevation" shown on the gps itself is about 20% higher than shown in the logs. Distances, etc match quite well. I'm quite sure the log is correct and the unit is wrong, based on other measurements.

Is this a known problem? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

That is a question for Garmin sounds like they are using the Barometric Altimeter for one reading and GPS elevation for the other. For best performance the Barometric altimeter needs to be calibrated before each use. I would try calibrating and then do a comparison again to see if the get any closer. Also mention your findings to Garmin for they may be recording it in two different ways.
