Is the GPS more sensitive and accurate than the 500 series?

I've got the 530 and sometimes it drives me nuts when going in a forest with heavy overburden. I use it for Geocaching and/or hiking and GPS accuracy is quite important.

Also is it Garmin chirp and wherigo player capable?

The unit is about the same in accuracy and reception as rino 530hcx but way more powerful than the old rino 530. By your description of reception issues you have the basic Garmin rino 530.

The unit can receive chirp signals but wherIgo is no longer in Garmin devices. I have not seen WhereIgo since the Colorado units a few years back.
