Does the basemap supplied on the Extrex Vista HCx purchased in the USA cover Canada as well.

It is a world wide basemap with major highways in North America. It will also show you political boundaries and city/town locations. It does not have much detail for navigating in a city or in the back country. Those maps are purchased separately.
