Excellent response to my last question. If you have a minute I would appreciate knowing how you evaluate the various GPS units. I am still trying to make up my mind, I am looking at waiting for the PN-60, going with the Garmin Oregon 450T or even the 76CSX. The big advantage I see to the PN-60 is the ability to load the Navionics lake maps. My primary purpose is for marking spots in local lakes where I catch fish, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello Dave,

By far Garmin is the better unit but delorme has its advantages. The big advantage is the integration with SPOT for when your out on the lake alone. Garmin will hopefully have the BC lake charts ready for this boating season. They have already release lake maps for Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

The Oregon 450 is my choice for now because of the Custom map ability and satellite imagery (BirdsEye). Garmin also has the ability to view Garmin topo maps in 3D for your land use. It is street map compatible for driving around town. Overall a more functional unit.

Test: I have been dealing with GPS for ~10 years and over time I got to know alot about the technology, plus I have a degree in electronics. My tests are simple. In short, If I find it hard to use 99% of my customers will also.
The older Delorme units didn't have the best menu system or ease of use. They also never fully supported Canada, until recently. The PN-60 is modeled after the Garmin menu system so they are much easier to use. Delorme also added better Canadian support to the handhelds. However I still need to test a fully operational unit to verify they made the unit easy to use by everyone.

Cheers
