Hi there,

I bought a Garmin Oregon 300 used but I haven't figured out how to use it in connection with my computer. In addition to the owner's manual CD I have a preprogrammed data card from Garmin "TOPO Canada, Northwest MAR 2009" but every time I hook up the GPS to my computer it recognizes the device and prompts me to choose from the options you always get from a memory card, these options include copy files from computer, download pictures etc.... It also opens Adobe Photoshop Essentials asking me if I want to download pictures. I figure that I need to load some kind of program on my computer to allow for the downloading of tracks but I don't know what program I should be installing. What do I do to download my tracks to my computer?

THanks for your help,

Will Jones

I am unsure which topo map you have for that is not a Garmin title that I recognize. You will need Garmin Topo. When you install Garmin Topo V4 a program called MapInstall is installed also. In the software you will choose the maps you want to use and send them to the GPS using the wizard. You will need to ignore the popup that Windows comes up with and start the Garmin software to talk to the unit. You may want to call for technical assistance. 1-800-800-1020 ** if you have the older mapsource Topo Canada software there is a video tutorial on Disk one
