How to create a waypoint on a map and not the current location?

Using the gpsmap 62s interface is it possible to create waypoints on a map other than by creating a waypoint at the current location and moving it? It would be very useful to be able create waypoints on the map screen without referencing the current location.

The cursor can be moved to different points on the map and pressing the "MARK" button will create the waypoint.

A waypoint can also be created using the FIND button (compatible map required, ie topo, city nav) and entering the POI or Address.
It can then be brought up using the FIND > Recent Finds > ENTER > "Highlight the find" > ENTER > MENU > Review Point > ENTER > MENU > Save as Waypoint > ENTER > OK.

Tom, Thanks for the prompt reply. I had hoped that your first method would work but I always get a waypoint at my current location.

Can I suggest:
On the MAP page press MARK to create a waypoint at your present location.
In the waypoint manager selected (ENTER) the waypoint created with MARK and Press MENU .
In the MENU press MOVE WAYPOINT and with the cursor MOVE the waypoint to desired location on the map

PLEASE DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS POSTING ON THE SUBJECT
Can I suggest:
On the MAP page press MARK to create a waypoint at your current location.
In the waypoint manager select the waypoint created with MARK and Press MENU
In the MENU press MOVE WAYPOINT and with the cursor MOVE the waypoint to desired location on the map or
Press MARK and enter the coordinates of the desired location in: LOCATION on the waypoint page before pressing DONE
SIGHT AND GO can also be used.
On the map page move the cursor to the desired location and press ENTER and GO
This will give the bearing and the distance to the desired location.
In SIGHT AND GO enter the distance and bearing to project your current location to the desired location.
Note: to use SIGHT AND GO set the GPS to true north. With firmware version 3.6 SIGHT AND GO does not work properly with the unit set to magnetic north.
This will be corrected in version 3.7 (already corrected in the 3.7 beta)

I came across this method of creating a waypoint at a remote location. Go to the map screen and move the cursor to the required location. Select ENTER, you will get a screen with GO at the bottom. (If you want to go there but not create a waypoint select ENTER again). Select MENU. You will be offered the option to create a waypoint. Select ENTER to create the waypoint then MENU if you wish to edit information. Back out with QUIT till you see the map and continue to create wayoints.
On my gpsmap 62s (firmware version 3.0) using MARK creates waypoints at the current location which you have to move. This proceedure is time consuming particularly if you wish to create a series at a distant location.

Hi Tony

Thanks for saving my sanity. Brilliant hardware but with an interface designed by Satan.

Tony is correct - at least with version 4.00 of the firmware in my 62sc, you press "enter" then "Menu" to create a waypoint at the current cursor location (different from current location). It will create a standard numbered waypoint which you can then edit in waypoint manager to change the name/symbol etc. This is not documented in the manual (there is a LOT that is not documented in the "manual" ).
