Thank you for the quick response. I see the date has been revised to, well, yesterday. Is there any recommended sites that I can get maps from? I need a map of certain regions of Afghanistan. Is there a package I can get that includes the caribean islands, the US and Europe? If so, how much?

There are many sites you can get maps from. The better ones usually come from the manufacturer but for places like Afghanistan there is no manufacturer map.

For those maps you can try googling "free garmin maps" and the name of the country. Also you can go to www.cgpsmapper.com - they have a free link to a Free Garmin map database with most places of the world covered in some level of detail. There is no perfect map so you may want to try all the maps for the area to see which one is best. Most of the maps from the free site have limitations because they where made with sharware. Some lack routing and search capabilities. But you will still be able to see what is around you. To load the maps there is a good tutorial on the cgpsmapper site. They do not load like regular Garmin maps using Garmin MapSource or Basecamp. You will need some tech knowledge and patience.

All maps of Europe and other areas covered by Garmin are found on our site. We also sell the marine charts for the Caribbean islands, the USA, Europe, Asia, Canada and more for the Garmin Nuvi 550 and other compatible Garmin units.
