I have been using a Magellan Explorist XL for years and have been delighted with it, but can't see anything by Magellan that matches its features. I could shift to Garmin and have looked at the 62 and the 78. Could you advise me if you believe this is what I should be replacing the XL with ?? Or is there something better. (Use is worldwide for waypoint navigation/ routes, and recording tracks in remote locations) I bought the XL from you and will be buying its replacement from you too :-) (a very old very happy customer)

I would recommend either the GPSMAP 62s or the GPSMAP 78s over the GPSMAP 62 and 78 due to the extra features like microSD memory, electronic compass, barometric altimeter and wireless transfer.

If the electronic compass, barometric altimeter, and wireless transfer are not necessary, then the GPSMAP 78 would be a consideration with it's microSD memory capability.

The operational buttons on the 62s would be similar in location to the Magellan as the buttons on the 78s are above the display.
I would suggest putting them in your hand for feel if possible before buying one as the operation between the 62s and 78s are the same, just the location of the buttons is the difference.
Also the 78s will float in water if dropped overboard.
